Israeli security officials have strongly criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after his comments about military operations north of the Litani River in southern Lebanon. They warned the remarks could put troops at risk.
The criticism was reported by Israel’s public broadcaster KAN on Friday. Officials also suggested the comments may have been made for political purposes.
The dispute comes during a period of heightened military sensitivity along the Lebanese border.
Security establishment anger
KAN reported strong anger within Israel’s security establishment following Netanyahu’s statements. Officials said the comments raised serious operational concerns.
Unnamed security sources told the broadcaster that revealing details of military activity serves no operational benefit. They warned it could expose sensitive information.
They also said such disclosures could compromise troop safety in active field operations. The officials urged caution in public military messaging.
Unconfirmed operations claims
On Thursday and Friday, Netanyahu claimed Israeli forces had crossed north of the Litani River. He also said troops had reached “positions of control” in southern Lebanon.
However, the Israeli military has not confirmed any such operation. No official statement has supported the claim of movement beyond the river.
Political opponents have criticized Netanyahu. They accuse him of using military statements to strengthen his political position.
Continued violence in Lebanon
Israeli forces have continued operations in Lebanon despite a ceasefire agreement that took effect on April 17. The truce was later extended following US-mediated talks.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry reports that thousands have been killed since March 2 due to ongoing strikes. The conflict remains highly volatile.
Officials on both sides continue to exchange accusations as tensions along the border remain high. The situation is still unstable despite diplomatic efforts.
