Authorities will formally charge an elderly woman from central Israel following her arrest two weeks ago on suspicion of conspiring to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu using an explosive device.
The case, initially shrouded in secrecy, represents one of the most serious domestic security threats against the Israeli leader in recent years.
According to Israel’s public broadcaster KAN, which first broke the story on Wednesday, the suspect underwent intensive interrogation by both the Israeli police and Shin Bet domestic security agency.
Following questioning, she was released under stringent restrictions prohibiting her from approaching the Prime Minister’s Office or other government buildings.
While precise operational details remain classified under court order, security sources indicate investigators uncovered evidence of a coordinated bomb plot targeting Netanyahu’s public engagements or transport routes.
The suspect is expected to face formal charges of “criminal and terrorism-related offenses” on Thursday, 24 July.
