Israel’s armoured forces command complains of tank shortage

The IDF Armoured Forces Command revealed a military secret to Israel’s Supreme Court: after 10 months of operation in Gaza, it lacks Merkava tanks and ammunition.

Israeli media reported this, citing court documents. The Israeli Supreme Court was sued by female soldiers who were refused requests to be sent to the Iron Swords military operation in the Gaza Strip.

IDF representatives told the court:

The number of tanks in service with the troops is not enough for the demands of war and experiments involving women. We are working to enlarge the arsenal.

The IDF General Staff decided to postpone sending women into combat positions until November 2025.  However, the General Staff noted that female soldiers played an important role on 7 October 2023 in repelling the Hamas group’s attack on Israel.
