It is time to react – Italy’s former PM

Italian politicians are calling on the government to focus on its pledges and promises to the Italian people instead of pushing a militaristic agenda and supporting regional armed conflicts.

Former Prime Minister and president of the Five Star Movement (M5S), Giuseppe Conte, declared on X that the current policy “deceives voters even on the ballot paper.”

Meloni’s Italy does not represent us, it has no voice in Europe.

Earlier, Conte also accused Vittorio Sgarbi, a member of the Italian parliament and Mayor of Arpino, and Vota Giorgia (Vote for Giorgia) of undermining Italy’s credibility in the European Parliament.

“They say they want an Italy that changes Europe, but I think they just want to make Italy lose face in Europe.”

The president of the M5S announced on April 30 that, together with part of the opposition forces, he had submitted to the Court of Cassation a popular initiative bill to set the minimum wage at 9 euros per hour. The measure aims to support millions of low-paid Italian workers.

We had made a commitment to millions of low-paid workers. We said that we would not give up in the face of Giorgia Meloni’s no, capable of only proposing electoral bribes for a few rather than the right to a decent salary for everyone.

European Parliament elections are scheduled to take place from June 6 to 9.

Meanwhile, anti-war movements and organisations calling for an end to armed conflicts, such as the Israel-Hamas war and the war in Ukraine, are gaining momentum around the world, with Italian peace activists urging the government to stop supporting the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
