Japan Airlines plane on fire at Tokyo airport, 17 passengers injured

The plane crashed onto the runway at Haneda Airport and caught fire. As a result of the crash, 17 passengers of the Japan Airlines flight were injured, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported, citing local firefighters.

More than 100 fire engines have been dispatched to the scene of the fire, and most flights have been cancelled, NHK reported.

Five crew members aboard a Japanese Coast Guard flight were killed and one injured when it collided with a Japan Airlines flight, NHK reported, citing local police.

Japan Airlines is investigating the details and causes of the plane’s fire, a spokesman for the airline told CNN.

Video footage shows a passenger plane travelling down the runway and being engulfed in a large fireball. The plane then came to a halt and people used emergency descents to escape the inferno while firefighters tried to fight the burgeoning flames.
