Japan’s death toll from an earthquake surpassed 100, with more than 200 missing.
A further 16 deaths were confirmed today in Wajima town and Anamizu town, bringing the total death toll to 110.
It is the highest death toll since the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake in southwestern Japan killed 276 people, including relatives.
The magnitude 7.6 quake that struck Japan’s west coast destroyed infrastructure, leaving 23,000 homes in the Hokuriku region without power.
The search for survivors under collapsed buildings is now in its sixth day, with more than 30,000 evacuees waiting for help.
