Jewish community waves Iranian flags in NYC, Trump mad at Israel

In a striking display of cross-cultural solidarity, members of New York City’s Jewish community gathered waving Iranian flags during a demonstration expressing support for the people of Iran, while US President Donald Trump expressed anger over Israel’s violation of the agreed truce.

The protests take place against the backdrop of the recently concluded conflict between Israel and Iran, during which both parties exchanged missile barrages.

On 23 June, New Yorkers took to anti-war protests after the US Air Force hit Iranian nuclear facilities. People gathered in New York’s Times Square, as well as in other cities across the country, including Los Angeles, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, Richmond, in response to the strikes approved by US President Donald Trump.

According to statements by US officials, only American bunker-buster missiles could hit Iranian targets. More than 120 aircraft, including fighter jets, tankers and seven B-2 bombers, were reportedly launched during Operation Midnight Hammer. Trump declared that Iran’s key uranium enrichment facilities had been “obliterated,” whereas Iran claimed that the Fordow plant suffered partial damage.

Demonstrations condemning the US strikes on Iran occurred in France’s Paris, Japan’s Tokyo, and Greece’s Athens.

Protests are also taking place in Canada and the UK, with people opposing European and US involvement in military conflicts in the Middle East. Demonstrators are calling on Trump to cut off support for Israel.

Trump got furious with Israel

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump expressed anger at the conflict between Israel and Iran, telling Fox News that the two countries “have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f*** they’re doing.”

Both sides, in his view, violated the agreed truce. Trump noted particular dissatisfaction with Israel, which “dropped a load of bombs the likes of which I’ve never seen” immediately after agreeing to a ceasefire.
