Jordan denies its involvement in strikes on Iraq

Jordan’s armed forces denied involvement in the airstrikes on targets in Iraq, state news agency Petra reported.

Petra, citing military sources, denied reports that Jordan was involved in airstrikes in Iraq, calling them “unfounded.”

The Armed Forces’ General Command also advised the public to ignore rumors circulating on social media and to seek information from official channels, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and accurate dissemination of information, it added.

Despite Jordan’s statement, Iraq has imposed sanctions on Jordan for making its territory available for strikes against Iraq. Baghdad is thus restricting oil supplies to that country, which accounts for up to 8 per cent of its total consumption.

On Friday, the US launched airstrikes against Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) after a drone attack late last month killed three US servicemen in Jordan.
