Vice President and US Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris released a report on her health and medical history by her White House physician saying she is fit for the presidency. Republican candidate Donald Trump has yet to do so.
In a Saturday report, her doctor Joshua Simmons said that Harris “possesses the physical and mental resiliency required to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief.” He added that she treats her seasonal allergies with over-the-counter anti-allergy medication.
The vice president maintains a healthy diet and regularly engages in aerobics and strength training, according to her doctor. He added that Harris occasionally drinks in moderation and does not use tobacco products. In other ways, Harris is slightly nearsighted and wears corrective contact lenses, had abdominal surgery at age three and her mother has a history of colorectal cancer.
“She has no personal history of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cardiac disease, pulmonary disease, neurological disorders, cancer or osteoporosis,” said the letter from Simmons, who added that the vice-president’s most recent physical examination in April was unremarkable.
Harris’ medical records came to light for the first time. Presidential candidates usually make their medical records public, and presidents typically undergo annual examinations. On the other hand, Trump said in August that he would release his records, but has yet to do so. Trump’s last medical report was a three-paragraph letter on his Truth Social account in November 2023, saying he was in “excellent health.”
The latest national polling averages show Harris with a nearly four-point lead over Trump, but key swing states remain too close to draw conclusions, and most experts look forward to a competitive election.
