Kate Middleton attended Wimbledon amid cancer treatment

Princess Kate Middleton of Wales attended the final match of the Wimbledon tennis tournament, her second public appearance since she announced her illness in March.

The Princess of Wales made a rare public appearance at the men’s singles final between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic on Sunday, despite ongoing treatment for cancer. As she took her seat in the royal box with her daughter, Princess Charlotte, and sister Pippa Middleton, she was greeted by loud applause from the audience.

It was obvious that Middleton was touched by the sweet gesture as she smiled and waved to the crowd, but according to lip-reader Jeremy Freeman, her reaction was even more touching. Speaking to The Sun, Freeman claims Princess Kate graciously said hello to the audience before turning to former tennis player Deborah Jevans, who was sitting next to her, and admitted the applause was “so sweet.”

Princess Charlotte looked at her mum with emotion, proud of her during the emotional moment.

The event was Middleton’s second public appearance since revealing of her cancer diagnosis earlier this year. Last month, she announced plans to attend Trooping the Colour and “several public events” over the summer while she continues treatment, but it was unclear whether she would attend the annual tennis competition to present the prizes.

In the end, it was Middleton who presented the trophy to the winners – including Carlos Alcaraz – after the match. Princess Charlotte was by her side to help do the honours, and told Alcaraz they were both big fans of his. she told the tennis champion as he shook Charlotte’s hand:

We’ve watched a lot on telly, so it’s great to finally get to meet you.
