Kazakhstan’s President signed decree on government’s resignation

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree accepting the resignation of his government on Monday.

Members of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan continue to perform their duties until the approval of the new composition of the Government.

The resignation of the government was adopted in accordance with Article 70 of Kazakhstan’s Constitution and would take effect from the day of its signing, with First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar temporarily assuming the duties of Prime Minister, the document reads.

The move followed violent protests on Tuesday that prompted Tokayev to declare a state of emergency in Central Asia’s largest city, Almaty, and in the oil-producing western Mangistau province.
