UK Labour Party leader Keir Starmer on Friday backed the idea of a two-state solution.
Keir Starmer criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s rejection of the two-state solution. It responds to Netanyahu’s speech at the White House, where he firmly stated his opposition to the creation of a Palestinian state after the end of the conflict.
Palestinian statehood is not in the gift of a neighbour, it’s the inalienable right of the Palestinian people. It’s also the only way to a secure settlement and secure future so they’re wrong that unacceptable, Starmer stated in an exclusive statement to ITV television.
Starmer had previously supported the Israeli side against Hamas in Gaza, then recently changed his stance, calling for a sustained ceasefire and condemning the number of casualties in the conflict.
According to Palestinian health authorities, at least 24,762 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed and 62,108 injured since the Israeli counter-offensive began, while 85 percent of Gaza’s population has been displaced amid severe shortages of food, clean water and medicine.
