Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has urged Muslim countries, particularly Gulf states, to strengthen cooperation. He said divisions among Muslim nations benefit their adversaries.
Khamenei issued the message on Telegram to mark Islamic Unity Week. The annual event commemorates the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.
He called for greater cooperation and mutual defence across several areas. Khamenei also warned that those who create divisions among Muslims, whether knowingly or unknowingly, ultimately assist their opponents.
Iran leader questions Muslim divisions
Khamenei also referred to the situation in Palestine. He questioned whether Palestinians would have been left “so helpless” if Muslim countries had remained united.
His comments come amid continuing tensions between Iran and several Gulf states. Tehran has previously accused regional governments of supporting US interests.
The Iranian leader specifically addressed Gulf rulers in his message. He asked whether “rogues without identity” would have dared to seek control of their lands and possessions if Gulf governments and peoples had stood together.
Khamenei remains out of public view
Khamenei has not appeared publicly since he suffered injuries in US-Israeli airstrikes six months ago. The strikes launched the Iran war and killed his father and predecessor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
His latest remarks follow a message to Iranians on Friday. He called on authorities to protect social cohesion and avoid statements that could weaken public and national morale.
The absence of public appearances has added attention to his statements released through official channels. His latest message focused heavily on unity, cooperation and regional security.
Iran and Gulf states face tensions
Gulf Arab monarchies have viewed Iran’s revolutionary ideology as a threat since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Tehran’s anti-monarchic rhetoric and regional influence have remained major concerns for several Gulf governments.
Tensions have also increased during the current conflict. Iran has targeted US military facilities and other infrastructure in Gulf states, highlighting the wider security risks facing the region.
“My emphatic and repeated recommendation to the rulers of Islamic countries, especially the countries of West Asia and the Gulf, is to identify your real enemy, understand his plan and confront it,” Khamenei said.
