Kim Jong Un said North Korea will launch three more military spy satellites, build more nuclear weapons and unveil advanced unmanned combat vehicles to confront the US in 2024.
The official Korean Central News Agency reports that during the five-day meeting, which ended Saturday, Kim said the actions of the US and its allies against North Korea this year have been unprecedented, bringing the Korean Peninsula to the brink of nuclear war:
“The grave situation requires us to accelerate works to acquire overwhelming war response capabilities and thorough and perfect military readiness to suppress any types of provocations by the enemies at a stroke,” Kim said, according to KCNA.
Kim Jong Un announced the launch of three military spy satellites and ordered authorities to continue working on producing more nuclear weapons and developing various types of advanced unmanned combat vehicles.
North Korea has focused on modernising his nuclear and missile arsenal after his nuclear diplomacy with former President Donald Trump broke down in 2019 over disagreements on international sanctions against North Korea.
Kim Jong Un’s forces have test-launched more than 100 ballistic missiles since last year, most of which carry nuclear warheads and are aimed at the US mainland and South Korea.
South Korean officials said that the reason for North Korea’s success in putting its spy satellite into orbit on 21 November was because of Russian help. Nevertheless, many foreign experts are skeptical of the satellite’s ability to take militarily important high-resolution images, but South Korean Defence Minister Shin Wonsik said in November that Russia has all the technical capabilities to help North Korea produce higher-resolution satellite photos.
