King Charles III “frustrated” by speed of cancer recovery

Britain’s King Charles is “frustrated” with the pace of his recovery from cancer, his nephew Peter Phillips said on Sunday (24 March).

Phillips, the eldest of the late Queen Elizabeth’s eight grandchildren and son of Princess Anne, told Sky News Australia that the king is frustrated because his recovery is taking longer than he would like. Phillips became the first member of the royal family to speak in detail about the monarch’s health. He said:

“He’s frustrated that he can’t get on and do everything that he wants to be able to do. He is always pushing his staff and everybody — his doctors and nurses — to be able to say actually can I do this, can I do that?”

Phillips added that while the King is pragmatic and understands the need for recovery time, he can’t wait to get back to normal life.

Charles, 75, hopes to attend an abbreviated Easter service and family gathering next Sunday, although his attendance will not be confirmed in advance. Kensington Palace said neither Kate, who is due to undergo chemotherapy, nor her husband, heir to the throne Prince William, will attend the Easter service.

Charles underwent surgery in January to correct an enlarged prostate. In February, Buckingham Palace said he was to undergo treatment for an unspecified form of cancer, meaning he would have to postpone his public royal duties.

Britain’s Queen Camilla said her husband Charles was feeling “very well” as he greeted crowds during a visit to Northern Ireland on Thursday.
