French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Britain on an official visit in July, during which he will stay at Windsor Castle and attend a state banquet, Buckingham Palace has announced.
The British palace announced that Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron have accepted an invitation from King Charles III and will make an official visit to Britain on July 8-10, 2025.
According to the programme, the French leader will stay at Windsor Castle. As part of the visit, a state banquet will be held for the French president at the historic residence in Berkshire.
This will be the first state visit by a French president to Britain since 2008, when Nicolas Sarkozy visited the country. The date of the second state visit by the US president has not yet been announced, although he is expected to arrive in Britain in September 2025 at the invitation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
This will also be Macron’s first state visit to the UK, following Charles’ visit to France in 2023, which was originally postponed at the request of the French president after trade unions announced a day of protest against raising the retirement age. Macron said that “it would not be sensible” to go ahead with it.
When Charles visited France, he became the first British monarch to address the French Senate. He spoke for about 20 minutes, mostly in French but occasionally switching to English. He spoke of France’s love for his mother and thanked the country for the “great kindness” it had shown after her death.
