King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark received the President of Iceland on their first state visit.
Her Excellency Halla Tomasdottir and her husband Björn Skúlason arrived in Denmark yesterday. After an official welcome, they took part in the laying of wreaths at the monument. This was followed by a reception at Amalienborg.
In the afternoon, the King and Queen and the presidential couple visited the Icelandic cultural centre Jónshús in Copenhagen. They then visited Parliament and met with Søren Gade, Speaker of the Danish Parliament.
At the University of Copenhagen, the couple visited the Arnamagnæanske Samling (Arnamagnæans manuscript collection). The presidential couple then held two more meetings.
In the evening, a state banquet in honour of the presidential couple was held at Christiansborg Castle. Princess Benedikte was also present at the event. The state visit will continue today.
