Kosovo’s governing party wins parliamentary election, exit poll shows

Kosovo’s ruling Self-Determination party is leading in parliamentary elections. It gained 38.2 per cent, according to an exit poll by Klan Kosova TV on Monday. According to Kosovo Online, citing the Central Election Commission, the election turnout was 40 per cent.

According to exit polls, the opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) is in second place with 22.4 per cent of the votes. The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) gets third place with 20.1 per cent of votes. A total of 28 parties and movements competed for 120 seats in the parliament.

The leader of the leading Self-Determination party is Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti. Since 2021, he heads the government of the republic. According to Reuters, under Kurti the unemployment rate in Kosovo has fallen from 30% to 10%.

According to Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, the largest party of Kosovo Serbs, the Serb List, won all 10 seats in Kosovo’s parliament out of the 10 seats reserved for the Serbian national minority.

Kurti called the election free and fair and announced the formation of a new government. During the election campaign, the Election Complaints and Appeals Commission issued fines to the parties totalling more than €650,000. Such figures are three times higher than in the 2021 elections.
