Kremlin: Davos talks on Ukraine will achieve nothing as Russia is not there

The Kremlin reiterated on Monday that discussions on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s peace formula were “devoid of prospects for any result”, The Independent reports.

Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in a press briefing in Moscow:

“Without our participation, of course, any discussions are possible, but they are devoid of prospects for any result.”

Commenting on Sunday on the fourth meeting of national security advisers on Zelensky’s proposal in Davos, Peskov said the talks were “conversations for the sake of conversations” and could not lead to a result because Russia was not present. He noted:

“Essentially, these are conversations for the sake of conversations. This is a process that is not and cannot be aimed at achieving a specific result for an obvious and simple reason: we are not participating.”

Zelensky’s 10-conditions formula was outlined at the G-20 summit in Indonesia in 2022, signing a peace agreement should be its last step. It also focuses on issues such as nuclear security, food and energy security. According to Peskov, Ukraine’s ban on any talks with Moscow should not be forgotten. He noted that Russia’s position was to achieve its goals and resolve security issues through diplomatic means. He said:

“But, in the conditions of the absolute impossibility of this, the reluctance of the countries of the collective West, the reluctance of Ukraine to take into account our security considerations, we are conducting and continuing a special military operation, through which we will achieve our goals.”

The annual meeting in Davos brings world leaders together to discuss a variety of global issues and potential solutions for those issues. Participants address critical concerns including wealth management, climate change, gender equality, mental health, venture capital and much, much more. These global issues are discussed via sessions, speeches, lectures, special addresses and impact panels.
