The Kremlin on Friday denied a Bloomberg report that President Vladimir Putin may consider dropping key demands on Ukraine’s security status.
The Bloomberg report said Vladimir Putin was “testing the waters” on Washington’s willingness to negotiate and was reaching out to the United States through indirect channels.
Citing two people close to the Kremlin, it is reported that Putin “may be willing to consider dropping his insistence on Ukraine’s neutral status and even eventually abandoning opposition to possible NATO membership.”
Journalists asked Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov about the story, in particular whether Moscow was really ready to abandon its demands for neutrality and NATO. Peskov replied:
No, this is a wrong report. It absolutely does not correspond to reality.
