Lebanon’s Hezbollah struck Israeli military base in Safed, 1 killed, 8 wounded

An Israeli woman was killed and eight others were wounded in a missile attack launched from Lebanon on Safed and a military base in the northern city, military and medical officials reported.

The attack is believed to have been carried out by Hezbollah, which has launched rocket, missile and drone strikes into northern Israel in recent months, declaring it was doing so in support of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) and Safed’s municipality stated that the missiles hit a military base in the area about 13 kilometres (8 miles) from the Lebanese border.

Numerous launches were identified crossing from Lebanon into the areas of Netua, Menara, and into an IDF base in northern Israel.

The municipality also reported hits in the city’s industrial zone and an area near Ziv Hospital. According to health officials, one person was killed and eight injured in the attack. The director general of Magen David Adom Ambulance Service, Eli Bin, revealed that when medics were scanning buildings hit by shelling, they discovered the body of a woman.

Ziv Medical Centre reported that eight wounded people were taken to the emergency room after missiles were fired at the city, with one person in grave condition.

So far, six civilians and at least nine IDF soldiers and reservists have been killed in clashes on the Israeli side of the border. There have also been several attacks from the Syrian side, with no casualties.

Hezbollah named 193 members who were killed by Israel in ongoing clashes, mostly in Lebanon. Another 29 fighters from other terrorist groups, a Lebanese soldier and at least 19 civilians, three of whom were journalists, were killed there, local media reported.

The war in Gaza erupted after a surprise Hamas attack on 7 October which killed about 1,200 people and took more than 250 hostages. As of today, the death toll from Israel’s retaliatory attack has surpassed 28,000, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
