Local German official convicted of molesting Ukrainian refugee children under threat of deportation

The Hamburg District Court sentenced 43-year-old Dennis W. on Wednesday to eight years in prison for sexually abusing two boys (ages 9 and 11) from a family of Ukrainian refugees, according to Bild.

After the outbreak of war in Ukraine in February 2022, many Ukrainian families fled abroad. A German official helped one of those families to migrate to Germany on his own initiative. Initially, he presented himself as their “protector” but then began to repeatedly intimidate the family, threatening deportation.

According to the court, between March 2022 and April 2023, the officer abused the boys several times in his car and took indecent photographs. In May 2023, he asked the brothers to give him a “massage” but they refused.

The man then began blackmailing the eleven-year-old boy with multiple threatening letters, one of which included the following:

“You are no longer welcome here. I have the power to deport you and your family.”

The Hamburg District Court sentenced Dennis W. to eight years of imprisonment for serious sexual abuse of children and production of child pornography. According to a court spokesperson, the defendant admitted most of the charges, sparing the victims from testifying in court.
