Police in the German city of Rimbach reported on Tuesday that a man broke into a bank in the city and took at least one person hostage.
Law enforcement services are now carrying out a release operation. Police in southern Hesse wrote on social media X:
“According to official sources, a man broke into a bank branch located on Rathausstrasse in Rimbach at around 08:00 local time this morning. He is holding at least one person against his will.”
At the moment, a large number of police officers and special operative units are present at the scene. The area near the bank is completely cordoned off.
In early December, a 17-year-old young man was detained in the German town of Elmshorn on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack on Christmas Eve. The young man was going to stage an attack also at a Christmas market – to drive a lorry into a crowd of people.
At the end of December, a car drove into a crowd at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, Germany.
