Mercedes intends to sell all car dealerships

The Stuttgart-based automaker plans to sell all of its dealerships in Germany and intends to start talks with potential new investors – BILD.

The decision applies to all 80 dealerships, “regardless of whether they are in rural or urban areas,” a Mercedes spokesperson told BILD. A branch at the group’s headquarters in Stuttgart as a consequence will also be discussed.

In the meantime, the company, headed by Ola Kallenius, makes it clear that none of the branches will be closed and that the group is not in financial difficulties. The companies up for sale employ 8,000 people. The group confirmed no layoffs are planned.

New owners are expected to hire 8,000 employees, but it is likely for them to earn less.

To potential buyers there are certain requirements. Only investors who prove that they meet all the requirements for the best possible functioning of the dealership will be considered. In addition to proven experience in the field, a long-term entrepreneurial vision is important, as well as a sustainable willingness to invest and openness towards employee representatives. In addition, the locations are “not to be handed over in their entirety to a buyer.”

The company has already taken a similar step in many other European countries, so the experience gained “reinforces” Mercedes-Benz’s decision, the statement said.
