Missile from Yemen intercepted as sirens sound across Israel

After a rocket was launched from Yemen, air raid sirens went off in Israel. However, the threat was neutralised, Israeli air defence forces successfully intercepted the rocket, the Israeli army said on Thursday.

“After alarms sounded in several areas of the country, the Air Force intercepted a missile fired from Yemen. The sirens were subsequently turned off,” the statement said.

The sirens were activated in accordance with the air threat warning protocol.

This missile strike was a response by Yemen’s Houthis movement to the IDF’s Operation Black Flag, carried out on the night of July 7, 2025. During the operation, Israeli aircraft attacked Houthi military infrastructure in the ports of Hodeidah, As-Salif and Ras Isa, as well as the Ras Qantib power station, which, according to the IDF, was used for military purposes. One of the targets was also the Galaxy Leader ship, captured by the Houthis in the Red Sea in November 2023, which, according to the Israeli army, was equipped with a radar system used to guide and coordinate attacks.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz commented: “Yemen awaits the fate of Tehran,” stressing that the Houthis, like Iran, will suffer serious consequences for their aggression against Israel.

Earlier, the Houthis shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper drone over Yemeni territory.
According to Yemeni media reports, the strikes on the port of Hodeidah caused a fire.
The Houthi movement, which controls the largest populated areas of Yemen, claimed responsibility for the rocket attacks on Israel. They regularly strike Israeli territory and attack maritime trade routes.

The Houthis claim that their attacks are an expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza, where, according to their data, more than 57,000 people have been killed as a result of Israeli strikes since the end of 2023.
