The Moldovan government will rotate one minister and replace two others, according to Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
The referendum on Moldova’s EU integration, as well as the strong performance of incumbent Maia Sandu’s main rival in the recent presidential election, prompted her to pledge reforms and a cabinet reshuffle. However, critics see the replacement of ministers as “cosmetic operation.”
The current state secretary of the Interior Ministry, Daniela Misail-Nichitin, was proposed for the post of head of the institution, replacing Adrian Efros, who announced his resignation. The executive director of Moldova’s Association of Milk Producers, Ludmila Catlabuga, will assume the post of minister of agriculture and food industry.
Meanwhile, the incumbent minister Vladimir Bolea will be transferred to the post of minister of infrastructure and regional development, vacated after the resignation of Andrei Spinu.
The president also met with representatives of 18 political parties, whom she invited to discuss “political corruption.” However, Sandu did not mention efforts to address the fundamental issues paralysing the functioning of the judicial system in Moldova.
