Munich Security Conference 2024: Ukraine, Gaza, Trump

The Munich Security Conference (MSC) 2024 will take place from 16 to 18 February 2024 at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel in Munich and provide an opportunity to debate with unique high-level perspectives on the world’s most pressing security issues.

From 16-18 February, a particularly topical conference is planned with a focus on strengthening the rules-based international order and building an inclusive coalition to combat revisionist tendencies and actions around the world.

The MSC, founded in the autumn of 1963, to celebrate its 60th anniversary during the main conference. Six decades after its founding by Ewald von Kleist, in February 2024, the MSC will once again bring together high-level decision-makers and thought leaders from around the world to discuss the most pressing international security issues.

Over the past 60 years, the Munich Security Conference has constantly evolved and tried new discussion formats, but its core mission has remained unchanged: to provide a platform for discussions that matter and, as its original motto suggests, to build peace through dialogue.

Critical topics addressed at MSC 2024 will include Europe’s role in security and defence, a new vision of the global order, the security implications of climate change and much more.

On the agenda of the conference is the question of whether Western allies can maintain aid to Ukraine, as Republicans in the US Congress have been blocking a new multi-billion dollar military aid package to Kyiv for months. The second issue is the dramatic situation in the Gaza Strip and the desperate search for a peaceful solution to the conflict in the Middle East. Finally, statements by Republican US presidential contender Donald Trump about denying protection to those NATO countries that do not pay the prescribed rate of two per cent of GDP on defence.
