Mysterious ball-shaped debris have once again been discovered on Australian beaches. Sydney authorities had already closed nine of them on Tuesday, Australian media reported.
The municipal council of the Northern Beaches district said on its social media page:
“The invasion of objects of unknown origin occurred three months after the appearance of black balls in the same area.”
The balls this time are small in size and have a white-grey colour. Authorities are working with environmentalists to collect the objects and find out their origin.
In October 2024, the authorities closed more than a dozen beaches in suburban areas of Sydney because of thousands of mysterious black balls. At first, it was assumed that they consisted of oil. However, scientists from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) later found out that the black balls are a mixture of vegetable oil, soap foam, human waste, plastic and recreational drugs.
According to scientists, the source of their origin could be sewage that has entered the ocean. However, experts and environmentalists have not been able to determine the circumstances of coastal water pollution.
