Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed Prime Minister Kaja Kallas of Estonia to NATO headquarters on Thursday to discuss final preparations for the Washington Summit, including the provision of further support to Ukraine.
The Estonian head of government said:
“We must define victory as our goal in the war, because you cannot win a war if victory is not defined as a goal.”
Mrs. Kallas also said the Baltic republics and Poland had demanded additional funding from the European Union. The funds will be used to build fortifications on the border with Russia and Belarus.
Mr. Stoltenberg highlighted Estonia’s many contributions to Allied security, noting that the country “leads by example by investing more than 3% of GDP on defence.”
Earlier, the EU leaders reached an agreement to nominate Kallas as the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy.
