Nearly 40% of Americans believe Biden should be charged with mishandling classified documents

The latest poll released by ABC News/Ipsos found that nearly 40 per cent of US citizens believe Biden should have been charged with a felony for handling classified documents after he left the vice presidency, Ipsos reported.

The survey also found that a majority of Americans (59%) believe that both Joe Biden and Donald Trump are too old for the next presidential term. It was preceded by the Hur Report, which touched on President Joe Biden’s memory failures.

After failing in an agreement to reinforce measures on the border with Mexico in exchange for funding for Israel and Ukraine, Americans’ opinion became further divided. Majorities blame Biden and both parties in Congress rather than Donald Trump, with about half of Americans (49%) stating that Biden deserves a great deal or a lot of blame for the failure of Congress to pass legislation designed to reduce illegal crossings at the US-Mexico border.

The ABC News/Ipsos poll was conducted between 9 and 10 February 2024 by Ipsos using the KnowledgePanel® probabilistic knowledge panel. A total of 528 adults aged 18 and older participated in the survey.

KnowledgePanel is the largest and most respected online probability-based panel representative of the US adult population. Households invited to join the panel were selected from all available households in the US, according to Ipsos.

The margin of sampling error was 4.5 percent at a 95 percent confidence level for results based on the entire sample of adults. The study was conducted in both English and Spanish.
