Nepalese record-breaking climber Kami Rita reached the summit of Mount Everest (8,848 metres), the highest peak in the world, for the 31st time.
The 55-year-old Kami Rita, who was accompanying a group of Indian military personnel, reached the summit at 4:00 a.m. local time on May 27.
“Kami Rita needs no introduction. He is not just a national climbing hero, but a global symbol of Everest itself,” a statement from expedition organiser Seven Summit Treks said.
Kami Rita first climbed Everest in 1994 and has made the ascent almost every year since. His father was one of the first Sherpa guides.
In 2023, Kami Rita climbed Everest twice in less than a week, setting a world record. He competes with his fellow Sherpa Pasang Dawa, who has climbed the mountain 29 times.
Sherpas, members of one of Nepal’s ethnic groups, often serve as guides for climbers attempting to reach the summit of Everest.
