Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened the Yemeni Houthi movement and Iran with retaliation for the attack on Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv, he wrote on social media on Monday.
“Israel will respond to the Houthi attack on our main airport, as well as to their Iranian masters, at a time and place of our choosing,” Netanyahu said.
The Israeli prime minister stressed that the attacks by the Yemeni movement “originated in Iran.” According to him, US President Donald Trump was right in putting forward this version of the origin of the strikes.
A ballistic missile launched by a Yemeni rebel group allied with Iran hit the perimeter of the airport, causing air traffic to be suspended on Sunday.
On Monday, Ben Gurion Airport resumed operations after the missile attack from Yemen.
The attacks by the Houthis, who control large parts of Yemen, underscore the regional dimension of the conflict in Gaza. The Iranian-backed militia began striking Israel and shipping in the Red Sea in late 2023, claiming to be acting in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
Last year, Israel responded with strikes on power stations, port facilities, the airport in Sana’a and “military infrastructure.” In March, US President Donald Trump ordered large-scale strikes against the Houthis to reduce their military capabilities and deter them from attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea.
