Netherlands raises passport and identity card fees

The Netherlands government announced that from January 1, 2024, anyone applying for an adult passport will have to pay €83.87 instead of the current fee of €77.87, according to SchengenVisaInfo.com.

Regarding identity documents, the authorities stated that a new fee of €75.80 would be charged for adults from January 2024. The identity card fee will be lower for nationals under the age of 18 – from January next year, they will have to pay 40.92 euros.

“As of January 1, a passport for an adult will cost a maximum of €83.87, compared to €77.87 this year. An identity card will cost a maximum of €75.80, and for those under 18, it will cost a maximum of €40.92.”

When applying for a passport, one must provide several documents, including a recent passport photo matching the requirements and documents proving identity and Dutch nationality.

After submitting all required documents, applicants need to pay a processing fee and wait for their passport to be ready.

Dutch passports as well as identity cards are valid for ten years from the date of issue for adults and for five years for persons under 18. The passport holders can travel to 108 countries without a visa. Moreover, Dutch citizens can travel to 41 countries without a passport.

According to the VisaGuide Passport Index, the Dutch passport is the sixth most important one in the world. It also indicates that Dutch passport holders can enter 21 countries by applying for an e-visa and need to apply for a regular visa to enter 18 countries.
