Nightclub bombing in Trujillo, Peru injures more than 30 people

At least 33 people were injured after a bombing at a nightclub in Trujillo early Saturday, authorities said.

The explosion happened at the Dali nightclub in the early hours of the morning. The city is located in the La Libertad Region along Peru’s northern coast.

Officials said several victims suffered serious injuries. Doctors are treating some for shrapnel wounds, while others have undergone amputations.

Among the injured are teenagers, including a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds.

Victims describe blast

Health officials said at least five victims remain in critical condition.

Gerardo Florian Gomez, executive director of the Trujillo Health Network, said hospitals are continuing emergency surgeries for the most severely injured.

One survivor described the moment the explosion occurred inside the crowded venue.

Fiorella Mantilla said she had glass embedded in her legs after the blast.

“It sounded as if the sound system had suddenly been turned off,” she told reporters.

Rising violence in the region

Authorities have not yet identified who carried out the attack or what motivated it.

However, the bombing comes amid rising violence in the region. Officials say organised crime groups often use explosives as part of extortion schemes.

According to official figures, the La Libertad region recorded 286 explosions in 2025. Of those, 136 occurred in Trujillo alone.

Last month, another explosion in the city damaged 25 homes but caused no injuries.

Earlier in 2025, a bomb exploded at a prosecutor’s office building in Trujillo. Other blasts in August and September damaged dozens of homes and injured more than 20 people.

Authorities believe many of these attacks are linked to criminal gangs, including Los Pulpos. The group’s activities have expanded beyond Peru to neighbouring countries, including Chile.

Investigators are continuing to search for those responsible for the nightclub attack.
