North Korean leader Kim Jong Un watched artillery drills by units of the Korean People’s Army to mark the anniversary of the end of the 1950-1953 Korean War, Korean media reported on Thursday.
The exercises took place in a coastal area and were organised in conditions as close as possible to combat conditions. The aim of the manoeuvres was to test the readiness of artillery units for night marches, rapid deployment and strikes against sudden targets.
Under the personal command of officers, the units delivered precise strikes against maritime targets at a strictly defined time, demonstrating a high level of coordination and training.
He called on soldiers to be ready for “real war at any time” and to be capable of “destroying the enemy in every battle,” the Korean Central News Agency reported in an English-language dispatch.
Kim Jong Un expressed satisfaction with the results of the exercises, comparing them to real combat. He noted that the army is demonstrating courage, initiative and readiness to respond to any challenges, emphasising the importance of further developing artillery tactics. According to him, such exercises are the result of a scientific approach and efforts to strengthen the ideological and combat training of military personnel.
