North Korea’s tough US strategy

North Korea has announced a “tough response strategy towards the US” during the Workers’ Party of Korea’s central committee meeting.

The plenary session, held from 23 to 27 December, reviewed the country’s political achievements and set goals for the coming year. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un led the meeting and delivered a speech. He emphasised plans to “consistently pursue a stringent strategy towards the US” to protect North Korea’s interests and national security, as reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

KCNA described the US as “the most reactionary state” and accused it of treating anti-communism as a central policy. The agency criticised the growing alliance between the US, Japan, and South Korea, calling it “an aggressive nuclear military bloc.” It also claimed that South Korea now acts as “a firm anti-communist outpost” for US interests. These developments, the report noted, clarify the direction and actions North Korea must take.

Kim highlighted “significant progress” in enhancing the nation’s defence capabilities. He also confirmed the party’s intention to pursue a more active approach in foreign policy next year.
