Mette-Marit, Crown Princess of Norway and wife of Crown Prince Haakon, is now experiencing a severe worsening of her illness, palace officials said on Friday.
In 2018, the Crown Princess was revealed to be suffering from incurable pulmonary fibrosis. This is a disease in which connective tissue begins to form inside the organ, preventing normal breathing.
The Royal Household announced that the crown princess’s condition has begun to deteriorate dramatically. An official statement said:
“Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mette-Marit has a progressive chronic condition called pulmonary fibrosis. The Crown Princess experiences daily symptoms and ailments that affect her ability to fulfil her duties. The Crown Princess requires more rest and her daily routine is changing faster than before.”
As a result, Mette-Marit will have to give up some of her royal duties. She will continue to attend events, but her work schedule will be modified to suit her needs.
