Older Arizona favours Trump over Biden

Voters over 50 in Arizona strongly favour Donald Trump in a November election rematch, Reuters reported.

A new poll shows Arizona, the largest organisation for older Americans in the US, points to a potential new sign of weakness in support for Democrat Joe Biden, favours a Trump victory in the upcoming election.

According to the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) poll, by 45 to 37 per cent voters favour Trump, with 11 per cent support for independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Moreover, Trump’s lead is thus largest among voters age 50 and older, 49 to 39 percent, suggesting Trump’s advantage ahead of the November election. His support among voters without a college degree, young voters and black voters has fallen since 2020.

To gain support from voters, Biden has taken a number of measures. He has lowered the cost of insulin and other prescription drugs, passed rules making hearing aids cheaper, and promised to protect funding for Social Security, the US government pension programme.

In addition, Biden’s campaign will kick off Arizona’s “Seniors for Biden-Harris” on Thursday with bingo tournaments in Arizona. First lady Jill Biden is travelling to Arizona on Saturday to speak to senior citizens.

Earlier, Biden’s campaign said he would attack Trump over Republican threats to cut Social Security and Medicare in the key states of Michigan, Arizona, Nevada, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania with an ad campaign and several press conferences.

Donald Trump returned to the campaign trail on Thursday with a trip to Arizona, his first appearance in the battleground state since he appeared in court, repeating his criticism of the case against him as politically motivated and calling for his conviction to be overturned on appeal.
