“One and a half countries” allowed strikes on Russia with NATO weapons, Borrell says

While Joe Biden’s administration opposes the use of NATO weapons against Russia, Poland favours it and Josep Borrell is at a loss.

The US administration is not encouraging strikes using NATO weapons transferred to Kyiv against targets outside the Ukrainian conflict zone, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a briefing on Tuesday.

Miller told reporters:

Our policy has been that we don’t encourage or enable strikes outside Ukraine’s borders..

While US allies have been reluctant to allow Ukraine to use their supplied NATO weapons to launch attacks on Russian territory, the head of Eurodiplomacy, Josep Borrell, once again confirmed this – saying that “one and a half countries” had given such permission to Kyiv.

Asked by journalists how many countries had already lifted their ban on the use of weapons they had supplied to Ukraine, Borrel said:

How many countries have already given the go-ahead… For the weapons they supplied to be used to strike targets on Russian territory? One and a half…? Two?…? To tell you the truth, I can’t give you a number. Some…

Meanwhile, Poland has allowed Ukraine to use the NATO weapons it supplies to strike targets in Russia, Polish Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk told local radio station Radio Zet.

The politician noted that Ukraine has no restrictions on Polish weapons supplied to Kyiv for use against targets on Russian territory. Tomczyk also called on other Western countries to lift such limitations. He added that Warsaw was preparing the 45th military aid package for Ukraine.
