More than 20 people injured on the night of 17 August after a Ferris wheel caught fire at a music festival near the German city of Leipzig.
The fire broke out shortly after 9 p.m. on two gondolas in Lake Stormtaler at the Highfield Festival and came under control quickly. As a result, four people set on fire, one suffered a fall and 18 others suffered smoke inhalation, according to a police spokesman.
Photos published by German media showed flames engulfing the gondolas on the spinning Ferris wheel, with thick black smoke billowing over the ride. Festival organisers said two gondolas on the Ferris wheel caught fire, but the cause of the blaze remains undetermined.
Helicopters and fire crews responded quickly and all the injured are now at a nearby hospital. A spokesman for the fire brigade eventually said the situation is under control.
The Highfield festival, which bills itself as the largest independent rock festival in eastern Germany, attracts thousands of visitors to the shores of the man-made Lake Stormtaler outside Leipzig every summer.
