Over 50,000 illegal immigrants arrived in UK in 403 days

Since the Labour Party came to power in July 2024, over 50,000 illegal immigrants have arrived in the United Kingdom. According to the Home Office, this is a record high for Prime Minister Keir Starmer compared to his predecessors.

The UK’s Minister of State for Education and former Home Office Minister Jacqueline Smith called the arrival of such a large number of migrants unacceptable. She stressed that the significant number of arrivals is a cause for serious concern.

According to the minister, the current situation clearly demonstrates how strong a foothold criminal groups specialising in the illegal and tragic transport of people across the Channel have gained in recent years. Smith also noted that to counter this phenomenon, the government is promoting a new border bill, which is currently being considered by parliament.

Reducing illegal migration was one of the Labour Party’s main election promises. The problem of migrants crossing the English Channel has been observed in the country since 2018.

By August 11, 50,271 migrants had reached the shores of the United Kingdom. Thus, the 50,000 mark was exceeded in 403 days of Labour rule, which is a new anti-record for the current government.

When Rishi Sunak was head of the cabinet (2022-2024), this threshold was exceeded in 610 days.
