Heavy metal star Ozzy Osbourne died at the age of 76 on Tuesday, just weeks after his farewell show with Black Sabbath.
Heavy metal star Ozzy Osbourne has died just weeks after reuniting with his Black Sabbath bandmates and performing a huge farewell concert for fans.
“It is with words that cannot express our deepest sorrow that we must inform you that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne passed away this morning. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones,” his family said in a statement.
Osbourne was a pioneer of heavy metal with Black Sabbath before achieving huge success on his own. He was known for hits such as Iron Man, Paranoid, War Pigs, Crazy Train and Changes, both with the band and as a solo artist.
The singer also gained fame of a different kind thanks to the MTV reality show The Osbournes, which chronicled the rather chaotic life of the Birmingham-born star in Los Angeles with his wife Sharon and two children, Kelly and Jack.
During his career, Osbourne has been inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, both as a member of Black Sabbath and as a solo artist. He also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well as a star on Broad Street in Birmingham, an Ivor Novello Award and five Grammy Awards from 12 nominations. In addition, he has received other awards over the years, such as the NME’s Divine Genius award and Classic Rock’s Living Legend award.
He had Parkinson’s disease and in recent years had other health problems, including complications from injuries sustained in a fall in 2019.
Osbourne is survived by his wife Sharon and children Amy, Kelly and Jack, as well as two older children, Jessica and Louis, from his first marriage to Thelma Riley, and grandchildren.
A month ago, Osbourne put his DNA up for sale. He drank 10 cans of Liquid Death cold tea, crushed them and placed them in sealed containers. Each one cost $450. “As soon as technology and federal law allow, you will be able to recreate Ozzy and enjoy him for hundreds of years into the future,” the advertisement said.
