Consumer prices for package holidays in the EU were 6.6 % higher in July 2024 than in July 2023. The price of domestic package holidays increased by 11.1 % and the price of international package holidays increased by 5.7 %, Eurostat reports.
Package holiday prices have been gradually increasing in all EU countries since August 2021. During 2022 and 2023, the annual growth rate exceeded 10 % in most months. In particular, domestic package holiday prices rose sharply in 2023, with annual inflation exceeding 20 % in 7 months of the year.
In July 2024, most EU countries reported positive annual inflation for package holidays sold within their borders. The highest increases were recorded for packages purchased in France (+22.2% compared to July 2023), Italy (+19.5%) and Cyprus (+16.7%).
Meanwhile, 3 EU countries reported negative inflation for package holidays: Malta (-2.9%), Finland (-2.7%) and Denmark (-0.2%).
Package holidays include all-inclusive holidays or tours that include travel, meals, accommodation, guide services, etc. It also includes half-day and full-day sightseeing tours and pilgrimage trips. International holidays refer to holidays taking place in countries other than the country where the holidaymaker resides, while domestic holidays refer to holidays taking place within the holidaymaker’s residence country.
