Palestinian health officials report: at least 30 premature babies evacuated to Egypt

Palestinian health officials said: at least 30 premature babies were evacuated from the Gaza Strip’s main hospital on Sunday and will be transferred to Egypt, other critically injured patients remain.

Global attention after images emerged showing doctors trying to keep newborns warm at Al-Shifa hospital. The power outage knocked out incubators and other equipment, ran out of food, water and medicine as Israeli military battled Palestinian militants outside the hospital.

Ministry spokesman Medhat Abbas confirmed the evacuation of 30 babies. The Palestinian Red Crescent Rescue Service said it evacuated 31 babies in coordination with UN bodies; they will be transferred to a hospital run by the United Arab Emirates in the Egyptian city of Rafah.

WHO has not commented the situation yet and.

According to WHO, some 2,500 displaced people, mobile patients and medical staff left Al-Shifa Hospital on Saturday morning; 25 health workers remained with the patients.
