Parts of UK prone to flooding due to heavy rainfall

The UK Met Office has announced that heavy rain is expected across much of the country this weekend. In the meantime, the following week is set to bring cooler and fresher weather.

Forecasters reported that although there were no weather warnings on Saturday morning, there may be several at the beginning of this week, as heavy rain previously lashed southern England and Wales on Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, in most parts of southern and central England there is a low risk of flooding causing property damage and disruption to transport services.

On Saturday morning, one flood warning remained in place in Ilston, South Wales, and two flood alerts were also in the region. The first band of cloud and brief showers will disperse across England and Wales, while later that same day, another band of heavy and thundery rain will sweep in from the south.

The Environment Agency is still operating under two flood warnings in the south-west of England, including in densely populated areas around the River Lower Avon.

In the north, prolonged sunny and dry spells are still expected, as in recent days, although the weather will become more cloudy and mild. Showers will continue to move north on Sunday, when heavy rain will affect many central and southern areas.
