Pentagon informer Teixeira sentenced to 15 years for leaking classified files online

Jack Teixeira, who stole hundreds of classified documents from the Pentagon and posted them online, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Teixeira, 22, pleaded guilty to six counts of knowingly possessing and transmitting national defence information in March.

All of the responsibility falls on my shoulders…and I accept what that may bring.

Prosecutors sought a 17-year prison sentence for the former Massachusetts National Guard member. During sentencing, Judge Indira Talwani noted that the leaked documents came after Teixeira underwent a lengthy training course on the consequences of leaks.

Despite that, you posted on the internet hundreds of documents over the period of a year.

After the sentencing, FBI special agent in Boston, Jodi Cohen, called Jack Teixeira “one of the most prolific leakers of classified information in American history.”

He transmitted it to our adversaries and our allies across the world.

Some of the information Teixeira disclosed included US troop movements overseas, the supply of military equipment to Ukraine, and discussions of a third-party conspiracy to target US forces overseas. Acting US Attorney Joshua S. Levy said at a press conference:

He leaked information that the government determined was likely to cause grave damage to the United States. We won’t know the full extent of Jack Teixeira’s damage for several years.
