A former Air Canada captain has been charged with fraud after allegedly flying hundreds of commercial flights over nearly two decades without the proper licence from Transport Canada, authorities have said on Wednesday.
Canadian authorities have charged Jeffrey Wall, a 59-year-old former Air Canada pilot, with fraud. According to the investigation, he accumulated hundreds of flying hours over 17 years as a captain despite lacking the necessary licence.
Wall, who retired last year, held some valid flying credentials but did not possess the licence from Transport Canada required to serve as a captain. Nevertheless, he allegedly commanded 900 flights between 2009 and 2025.
The pilot’s conduct first raised suspicions in March 2025, when he presented questionable documents during a routine inspection. This triggered an investigation, after which he was arrested and subsequently released. His court hearing is scheduled for late June.
Wall faces seven charges, including fraud exceeding $5,000, forgery of documents, and causing damage to the public interest.
Air Canada has stated that Wall’s actions “did not compromise passenger safety,” as pilots undergo flight training every six months and successfully demonstrate competency. However, the airline acknowledged that proper licensing remains a crucial element of safety.
