Poland’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, stated on Tuesday that his country would demand a full mobilisation of the West to support Ukraine.
He also declared that Poland would achieve a leading position in Europe and become a strong part of NATO.
Poland’s parliament backed Tusk’s candidacy for prime minister on Monday, replacing outgoing PM Mateusz Morawiecki. Tusk, a former European Council president, faces a vote of confidence later Tuesday.
We will… loudly and decisively demand the full mobilisation of the free world, the Western world, to help Ukraine in this war.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to hold talks with US leaders on Tuesday, pushing for more US aid in the war against Russia, amid growing doubts among many Republican lawmakers.
Tusk also told parliament that Poland would become a loyal ally of the United States and regain its position as leader of the European Union. However, at the same time, Tusk stressed he would not agree to any changes to EU treaties that would put Poland at a disadvantage.
Any attempts to change treaties that are against our interests are out of the question… no one will outplay me in the European Union.
