Polish farmers halted a protest after reaching an agreement with the government that meets their demands.
Farmers and truckers had been blocking border crossings, complaining that imports of Ukrainian foodstuffs have caused prices to fall, affecting their incomes, while truckers say they are underestimated by their Ukrainian counterparts.
On Saturday, an agreement was reached with the farmers’ group Deceived Village and Teresa Kubas-Hul and the agriculture minister. Under the agreement, the farmers agreed to suspend their protest at the Medyka border crossing.
The agreement states that the Minister of Agriculture accepted the demands of the farmers, who were seeking a 1 billion Polish zloty subsidy, a lower agricultural tax and preferential liquidity loans.
The demands are to be fulfilled after the legislative process is completed and the necessary approvals are obtained from the European Union.
