A large protest of farmers is planned for Friday in Warsaw. The manifestation will take place under the European Commission representation, after which the protesters will march under the National Theatre, Polish media reported.
Tomasz Obrzański, leader of Solidarity, an independent trade union of Polish agricultural producers, said:
“We are experiencing a historic moment because all agricultural organisations in the country are with us and will protest against harmful EU policies. We will protest against Ursula von der Leyen, who is imposing policies that will force our farms to close.”
Tomasz ObrzaÅ„ski noted that the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union must take farmers’ needs into account when it comes to climate, trade and the future budget of the community.
Under the slogan “5xSTOP,” Polish farmers are protesting against the European Commission’s agricultural, climate and trade policies, which, according to the organisers, are a threat to the functioning of family farms, to forestry, hunting and industrial farming in Poland.
The protest action is scheduled for noon. The farmers will gather at 2 p.m. outside the European Commission’s office in Warsaw, on Centrum Jasna Street. Then they will go under the national theatre, where a gala concert will be held to mark the start of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Damian Murawiec from the grassroots national farmers’ protest said:
“We will start at 2.00 pm at the European Commission representation building. Then we will march through the streets of Warsaw under the National Theatre, where we will also perform on Senator Street. And by the evening we will be there to give a dignified welcome to Ursula von der Leyen during the start of the Polish presidency, which will officially begin that day at the National Theatre.”
